Kigali: On 18 December 2018, 100 youths graduated in garment manufacturing under the National Employment Programme at UFACO& VLISCO NL LTD.

The Minister of state in charge of Primary and Secondary Education Dr. Isaac Munyakazi thanked UFACO& VLISCO NL LTD and Rwanda Polytechnic through National Employment Programme for having certified 100 youths and promote Made in Rwanda.

The Minister of State further expressed that the government of Rwanda has strived for decreasing substances from abroad in order to promote Made in Rwanda and increase the number of Rwandans who attend TVET Schools.

He also gave many thanks to UFACO & VLISCO for their role in promoting gender equality as 80 per cent of all workers are women. Minister Munyakazi asked them to yield high quality garments and be able to compete at international market.

The Vice Chancellor of Rwanda Polytechnic Dr. James Gashumba thanked UFACO & VLISCO for training and assessing their employees through National Employment Programme. 

 He also said that this programme of certifying students is a good step in making partnership between government’s institutions and private sector in promoting TVET and job creation.

He further expressed that through the Program of NEP-KORA WIGIRE, the government of Rwanda is promoting TVET Schools and striving for decreasing the number of unemployment especially in youth.

He added that 41,128 graduates have finished their courses from 2014. He also expressed that teaching garment manufacturing will support the government‘s vision of upholding Made in Rwanda.   

UMURERWA Fabiola the owner of UFACO said that the idea came when she lived in Belgium and decided to come in Rwanda for carrying on her activities in her mother land. She added that they plan to expand their activities and shift from 100 to 400 workers next year by making them more competent at international level.

 UFACO started its activities in 2016 and its graduates got training of 6 months in garment manufacturing and they based on create fashion, apply textile printing, take care of fabric, Design garment manufacturing, Operate and maintain industrial sewing machine and Care of garment.
