TVET Nyabihu School and Rwanda Coding Academy launched

On 22nd February 2019, marked the Inauguration of Nyabihu TVET School and Launch of Rwanda Coding Academy in Nyabihu district, Western province.

Nyabihu TVET School is one of the Presidential pledges and it is located in, and supervised by, Nyabihu District. It has been recently established as a Training Center aiming at increasing access to TVET. This modern school has been established by the Government of Rwanda in partnership with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) who contributed to the construction, equipment and training of staff. The school trains young Rwandans from across the country in four trades that respond to the labor market needs of the country, namely; Culinary Art, Food processing, Welding, and Leathercraft.

The School was hosting Rwanda Coding Academy (RCA), a special model school that has been conceived by the Government of Rwanda and initiated by partner institutions: Ministry of Education (MINEDUC), Ministry of ICT and Innovation (MINICT), Rwanda Polytechnic (RP), Rwanda Information Society Authority (RISA), Rwanda Education Board (REB) and Workforce Development Authority (WDA).

The Minister of Education Dr. Eugene Mutimura said that students in Rwanda Coding were selected through the country basing on their level of performance in subject that seems are more important to coding such as Physics, Mathematics and English as medium of instruction. He added that they based on promoting gender where 30 students are females and 30 are males.

“we tried to give an opportunity to the best performers in O’ Level National Examination and we put in consideration gender where 30 students are girls 30 are boys.” Minister of Education said


The Minister for ICT and Innovation Paula Ingabire said that there is a plan of establishing a coding school in every province and in city of Kigali as to increase the mass of software engineers.

Dr. James Gashumba, the Vice Chancellor of Rwanda Polytechnic announced that the school will contribute to the development for the country and help young Rwandans to compete in labor market.

One of the parents gave many thanks to his excellence Paul KAGAME for his incomparable gift for Rwandans and said that the school will rise more experts in technology and decrease in those from abroad.

 Rwanda Coding Academy opened its doors for the first time on 4th February 2019 starting with 60 students in total where Nyabihu TVET School is currently hosting 129 students.
