Rwanda wins 3 medals in the Continental WorldSkills Africa competition

Rwanda won 3 medals in the Continental World Skills Africa competition that took place at Swakopmund, Namibia 2022 from 28th March to 2nd April 2022, with more than 20 countries participating in the competition as a preparation for the Global World Skills Competition that will take place in Shanghai-China, October 2022.

While welcoming the team (Competitors, National experts and team leaders) from Namibia, the Ag. Vice Chancellor Dr. Mucyo Sylvie thanked them for making Rwanda and Rwanda Polytechnic proud and assumed that this competition will increase the interest of companies that wish to invest in Rwanda after noting that Rwandan students are skilled. She added that the victory also marked the efforts that Rwanda has put in Technical and Vocational Training.

The Principal of IPRC Huye, Lt. Col. Barnabe Twabagira who led the team said that the win is from the efforts that Rwanda Polytechnic has put in preparing competitors for 3 weeks before joining other competitors from 21 different African countries and helped them to perform well and win at highest level compared to other participant countries.

He also added that the competition was also a good time to exchange ideas with different experts and work time-efficiently but still do quality work.

The winners point out that the training they got for three weeks helped them to perform well and gain triumph. They also said that hardworking, discipline, good leadership and praying are among factors that led to their victory. They also added that they set to bring their skills on the labor market.

In this competition, Mr. Janvier Nizeyimana won a Gold medal in the skill of Welding, Silver medal was won by Mr. Andre Ndayishimiye in Bricklaying and a Bronze medal was won by David Irimaso.

Rwanda was represented by 4 competitors in 4 different Skills. areas Namely Bricklaying, Plumbing and Heating, Electrical Installation and Welding (one per each skills area) together with their respective National Experts and team leaders in the 2 weeks’ competition.
