Rwanda Polytechnic holds its 5th graduation ceremony

Rwanda Polytechnic (RP) on May 12, 2022 graduated 2753 students at its fifth graduation at IPRC Kigali Stadium.

Among 2753 graduates, males were 2131 while females were 622.During the graduation ceremony, the graduating students were awarded Diploma and Advanced Diploma certificates after completion of studies in different programs which are   Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Hospitality, Information and Communication Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Wildlife Management, Tourism, Forest Resources Management, Irrigation and Water Engineering, Forestry and Veterinary Technology  in the academic year 2020/ 2021 in eight constituent colleges of RP.

RP has eight constituent colleges designated as ''Integrated Polytechnic Regional Colleges'' (IPRCs) which are: IPRC Gishari, IPRC Huye, IPRC Karongi, IPRC Kigali, IPRC Kitabi, IPRC Musanze, IPRC Ngoma, and IPRC Tumba. 

Prior to this fifth graduation, RP conducted 4 graduation ceremony: On June 28, 2018 with a total number of 1,882 graduates, its second graduation on 21st March 2019 with 2088 graduates, third graduation on 25th October 2019 with 2398 graduates and 4th virtual Graduation on 6th May 2021 with a total number of 3049 graduates.

The Minister of State in Charge of ICT and TVET who was the guest of honor said that the government of Rwanda is very committed to supporting TVET as major area and there were many vibrant opportunities in it. She reminded them that progress of the country will rely on the skills & values drawn from Rwanda Polytechnic.

The Ag. Vice Chancellor of RP Dr. Sylvie Mucyo congratulated graduates and said that what they have achieved are from their efforts and determination.  

 Speaking to graduates, the Ag. Vice Chancellor said that the skills gained from Rwanda Polytechnic required to contribute to the social and economic transformation.

“The Practical and entrepreneurial skills gained from Rwanda Polytechnic accompanied with values of excellence, Patriotism, Loyalty and Respect are not only self-help and life-saving skills required to create jobs and compete in the labor market, but also they are skills required to contribute to the attainment of the social and economic transformation, one of the three pillars of the National Strategy for Transformation(NST1).” She said

Ag. Vice Chancellor , Dr. Sylvie Mucyo said that the skills  that graduates gained from RP will contribute to the social and economic transformation.

During the ceremony, the best performing students from each college, overall best performer and best females performers in STEM awarded a cheque worth 500,000 Rfw and the best innovation project was awarded a cheque worth 600,000

They also awarded RP students who won medals in WorldSkills Africa competition held in Swakopmund, Namibia last March 2022.
