Rwanda Polytechnic celebrates its first graduation ceremony with 1882 graduands from eight colleges
On this Thursday 28 June 2018, Rwanda Polytechnic (RP) for its first graduation ceremony awarded Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas to 1882 graduands, a highly skilled labour force with hands-on skills at IPRC Kigali Stadium.
The occasion was officiated by the Hon. Minister of Education, Dr. Eugene Mutimura while Hon. Minister of State for TVET Olivier Rwamukwaya acted as the chancellor of Rwanda Polytechnic for this occasion.
This graduation involved graduands from eight colleges namely IPRC Kigali, IPRC Kitabi, IPRC Huye, IPRC Karongi, IPRC Musanze, IPRC Ngoma, IPRC Gishali and IPRC Tumba who completed their studies in the academic year 2016/2017.
To make Rwanda a knowledge based-economy through human resource development strategies is one of the pillars of vision 2020, RP will contribute in its implementation. Among the programs that the graduates pursued there are Civil Engineering, Agriculture Engineering, Veterinary Technology, Hospitality Management, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Tourism, Forest Resources Management, Irrigation and Water Engineering, Agriculture and Food processing, Renewable energy, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics, Biomedical Engineering and Information and communication Technology Departments.
19.4 % of the graduands are females and 80.6% are males which indicate less enrollment of females in Technical and Vocational Education.
“We want RP to produce not only the best technicians, but also the best innovators and entrepreneurs” said the Minister of Education who was also the guest of honor in his remarks.
Rwanda Polytechnic vision is to provide quality education that complies with applicable standards through vocational education that enables beneficiary to acquire skills required to create jobs and compete in the labour market.
