5 Rwandan Students obtain Golden Medals in African Skills Competition 2018

The just concluded African skill completion that was conducted between 20th to 23rd November 2018, held in Kigali -  Rwanda, 5 Rwandans received 5 Golden Medals during the competition.

In a 3 -days intensive competition held at IPRC Kigali brought together 33 competitors and delgates accross the globe who were commissioned to showcase and exhibit their skills in different trades thus; Mechatronics, Electrical Wiring, Cooking, Welding, Plumbing, Brick Laying and Hairdressing.

Among the best performers and the winners of golden medals include; Abayo Himbaza Enock in Electrical Wiring, Kicaro Ngabo Victor in Welding, Mukabalisa Channela in Hairdressing, Turinayo Janvier in Brick Laying and Bigirimfura Shero in Plumbing.

The Minister of Education Dr. Eugene Mutimura said that this competition has laid a yardstick for us Rwandans to assess our level of competence in skills development.

“It is a great pleasure, for us as Rwandans to identify our stand, in TVET and the level of our students’ performance, both Girls and Boys gained golden medals, Bronze and Silver, something to appreciate” Dr. Mutimura said

The Minister further expressed that much effort should also be invested in preparation for the coming World Skills competition.

While visiting competitors at IPRC Kigali on 22nd November 2018, The Minister of Education said that this competition will be an opportunity to highlight our areas of weakness so as to put more efforts and match our   standard to other countries.

The Africa Skills Competition that was held in Rwanda from 21st - 23rd November 2018 was organized by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with Rwanda Polytechnic, Workforce Development Authority(WDA), World Skills International, FESTO DIDICTIC, TVET Development parterners and other Stakeholders.
